Today we celebrate the birth of a boy. He was not a general. He never commanded an army. He was not a King. He was not a merchant or a noble. He was born poor, in a manger, and was never wealthy.
He never raised an army or entered into politics. His message itself was a paradox; he taught of a victory through peace and love. He told us that by loving and helping people, even our enemies, we could change the world. He asked that we do the right thing, but did not force people to comply.
His message still resonates with many today. You will know His followers by their peace, and their love, and their charity. You will know them because they speak not of hatred or violence or war, but of compassion and mercy. You will see them speaking out against injustice and violence and cruelty. You will see them working with the poor and those in need. You will know them because you will feel their love.
Today we celebrate the birth of a boy; a most remarkable boy. A most remarkable man. You don’t need to be a general, or a king, or a politician. You don’t even need to be a pastor or church leader. You can be like this remarkable boy simply by loving those around you, and helping those in need. All you need to do is spread peace. And then, like Him, you will change the world.
