Dear Mizzou

Today I stand embarrassed that I attended the University of Missouri and dismayed that I paid tuition for three kids to come here. I am not alone. Alumni all over the country feel ashamed of what is happening here.

But I am furious that my tax dollars are being used to violate the individual liberty of certain students by force. And I am sad that both students and professors showed a complete lack of respect for the rights of one of your own.

That is not who we are. That is not what we believe. That is wrong. Liberty is not for "certain" people and freedom of speech is not for "some" ideas. It does not appear that everyone at Mizzou shares that view.

Let's clear up a few things.

-Segregation by skin color is wrong.

-Silencing opinions you disagree with by force is wrong.

-Racism is horrible. Doing something horrible in the name of attacking racism is also horrible.

I will not paint all students, faculty, and alumni with the same broad brush but many of you need a remedial course in basic civil rights.

Not standing up for what is right is also wrong, whether it is racism or the rights of a student journalist. Those of you who agree with this need to step up and speak your mind. Now would be a good time.

I am not sure that you are all aware of the level of backlash and unintended consequences that Mizzou now faces as a result of this circus.

Basler and Click must go, at a bare minimum. The University needs to do damage control and those of you who understand what Liberty means must speak up.

You will have to decide whether your student leadership truly represents the student body. In so doing I ask one thing:

Don't be silenced.
