On Tuesday Missouri will hold the 2014 Primary Elections across the state. There are 5 Constitutional Amendments on the ballot as well as primary elections for a number of state and local officials. I have been asked my opinion on the issues and candidates and I thought I would put my thoughts here, for what they are worth.
An endorsement of any candidate does not say anything negative about the other people in the primary.
Amendment 1 – Right to Farm: NO
I support the idea behind this amendment and would like to protect Missouri farmers from attempts by HSUS and others to attack them but this amendment is too vaguely worded for me to be able to support it. We do not need to risk any unintended consequences.
Amendment 5 – Gun Rights: YES
This bill clarifies our right to bear arms and requires the Missouri defend that right. Not sure it will have a big impact but I support it.
Amendment 7 – Sales Tax Increase for Transportation: NO
This is a very emphatic NO. This would be the largest tax increase in Missouri history. We need to maintain our roads and bridges but they are far from the worst in the country. And most importantly, roads, like education, should have been one of our first priorities in the budget. Instead, they spent the money on things voters would not have approved of and now they want you to increase your taxes to make up the difference.
Amendment 8 – Veterans’ Lottery Ticket: NO
Do we really need a constitutional amendment for a lottery ticket? I love veterans (we all do) but we should not be singling out any group for special treatment like this, and government has no business promoting gambling, especially a fool’s game.
Amendment 9 – Electronic Privacy: YES
I fully support these protections of our personal liberty in terms of our electronic data.
Here is the list of people I support in their respective races.
State Senator
District 2 – Bob Onder
State Representative
District 1 – Stan Sportsman
District 41 – Alex Salsman
District 102 – Kurt Bahr
District 103 – Alexander McCarthy

St. Charles County Central Committee
Township 4 – Dan Rakers
Township 5 – Dave Guest
Township 11 – Marvin Stehr
Township 13 – Ron Lares
St. Louis County Executive
Tony Pousosa
